1. These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.John 16:1. Jesus is speaking to the disciples the night before He is crucified. Jesus is telling them about things that are coming, like hard times and the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is so they will not be surprised or lose faith when things get difficult. Some will be murdered, others thrown out of the synagogue. Jesus reveals this persecution is because of the leaders' spiritual blindness, and they think that God will reward them for this behavior. Jesus has many more things to tell His disciples, but at this time their spiritual capacity is limited. When the Holy Spirit comes, He will reveal all truths to them; the Spirit will not reveal anything that does not come from the Father. Jesus is now preparing them for a life without His physical presence. Jesus' body could only be in one place at a time; the Spirit can be with every believer everywhere. The Spirit will convict the world that rejecting Christ is sin. That unbelief is not neutral; it is rebellion against the Son of God and a lack of trust in Christ. The Spirit of the Living God will lead you into God's truth: no lies, no confusion. To be successful in Christ, you need the Spirit of God leading you. The world cannot receive Him because they refuse to believe. Amen.
