“I thought I wouldn’t survive the night. I was in a panic, crying when the explosions became so strong that they blew the shelter doors open,” says a 13-year-old girl from Kyiv.
The girl and her mother were taking cover from a massive attack in a nearby municipal shelter. When a missile hit their home, smoke filled the shelter and plaster began falling from the ceiling.
And yet, this is what childhood in Ukraine looks like today.
