President Barack Obama said this, during his address at Cairo University, where Obama formally highlighted the history and impact of Muslim Americans.
"I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America's story... And since our founding, American Muslims have enriched the United States."
To support this statement during the speech, Obama pointed out several historical facts regarding Muslims in early America:
🎯 John Adams signed the Treaty of Tripoli in 1796, which explicitly stated that the U.S. held no enmity toward the laws or religion of Muslims.
🎯 Thomas Jefferson maintained a copy of the Quran in his personal library, which was later used by the first Muslim-American elected to Congress to take the oath of office.
🎯 Morocco was the very first nation to formally recognize the independence of the United States.
