Democrat Rep. Hillary Scholten says Republicans are using the SAVE Act to “solve” something that is already illegal.She said:“Only United States citizens should be deciding our elections. Republicans are trying to sell the SAVE Act as a way to stop non-citizens from voting, but we know that’s already illegal.What this bill really does is make it harder for citizens to vote, especially women.”Scholten says the bill could create new hurdles for legal voters, especially women whose married names may not match older citizenship documents.Republicans say the SAVE Act is about election integrity and requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote. Critics say it adds unnecessary barriers for citizens who are already legally eligible to vote.
