24. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.John 4:24. Jesus is talking to the Samaritan woman at the well, revealing His knowledge of her past. She quickly changes the subject from her exposed sin to a religious debate about where to worship. Jesus begins to show her how and who to worship. Jesus explains that, coming soon, worship will not be centered on a place. But a new era is beginning; with the death and resurrection of Jesus and the coming of the Spirit, worship will be the way God wants it: truthful and from the heart. In line with God, not our ways or ideas, but centered on Jesus, who IS THE TRUTH. The woman says, "I know the Messiah is coming." Jesus says plainly, "I am He." The woman leaves her waterpot and runs to the village. She is not a religious leader, not trained, but she brings the village out to Jesus because she said, "Jesus revealed my past." She was once ashamed, coming to the well when nobody was there. She left the waterpot, now being filled with living water from Christ. One woman's encounter moves a whole village. Jesus reached her; she reached them. We must do the same. Amen.
