One sign for the unbelievers 'The wicked and adulterous generation desires a sign; But no sign will be given to them except the sign of Jonah the prophet" (Matthew 16:4). The Bible clearly says that God will judge this world. All injustice and wickedness will be punished and done away with. And the world has received a sign, a warning for this. The Lord Jesus points to the sign of Jonah, the prophet. Jonah was swallowed by a large fish, but was spit out after three days. In the same way, the Lord Jesus was, so to speak, swallowed up by death, but rose again after three days. And that is a sign, a warning to this world, that one day it will be judged by Him. When Paul speaks in Athens, he also points this out. 'God, therefore, overlooking the times of ignorance, now everywhere proclaims to all men that they must repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by a Man whom He has appointed for this purpose. He has given proof to all by raising Him from the dead" (Acts 17:30.31). The resurrection of Jesus Christ is therefore the sign for this wicked world that it will one day be judged by Him. That is why it is of the utmost importance that the Gospel is proclaimed everywhere, so that many more will convert to God and thereby avoid judgment.
