36. And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
John 1:36.
John 1:29-36, the author gives an eyewitness account of John the Baptist seeing Christ returning from His temptations in the desert.
In a public display, John the Baptist says, "Look at Jesus, He is the One God sent to remove the guilt and power of sin from all who will come to Him."
Christ existed long before John the Baptist, and in simple terms, He is saying, "I didn't know my cousin was the Messiah, but God sent me to reveal Christ as the Messiah to Israel."
John the Baptist is an eyewitness to the Spirit coming and staying with Christ. He officially testified that Christ is the Son of God.
As Christ walks by John, He says, "Behold the Lamb of God," meaning Christ is the true and final sacrifice God provides for the world's sins.
John's disciples hear him saying, "That's the One you should follow."
We should do likewise. Amen.
