45. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, Luke 24:45. In Luke 24:36-45, we have Jesus appearing to His disciples, who were talking about reports that Jesus was alive. Jesus's first words were, "Peace be unto you." The disciples were frightened, and Jesus said, "Why are you afraid and doubting Look, it is I; behold My hands and feet. Touch Me, see it's Me!" Jesus's resurrection was not just spiritual; His body arose from death. Jesus gave them something real to believe in. Jesus ate in front of them; spirits do not eat. Jesus's body is real, His resurrection is real, not imaginary. Jesus gives them something solid to rest their faith in. This is huge; Jesus doesn't give them a Bible study. He opened their understanding, working in their hearts and minds, to understand, to truly grasp what the scriptures mean. We also need God to open our understanding; it is a gift. Once the disciples saw Christ alive, the scriptures made sense. When we see Jesus as alive, God's word will be alive in us. Amen.
