43. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise. Luke 23:43. Jesus is now at the end of His mission. The people still mock Him, and Pilate has put a sign over His head saying, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Two criminals are crucified with Jesus. One says, "If you are the Christ, save Yourself and us too." The other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, seeing we are suffering the same death? We are getting what we deserve, but this man is innocent." And turning to Jesus, he says, "Lord, remember me when you enter Your kingdom." We come to today's verse, "Today you will be with Me."This man, condemned to die, is given a guarantee that he will be with Jesus when he dies. Salvation is being with Jesus. The lesson: even at His lowest point, Jesus is still King. Jesus, near death, gives a sure promise. We are guaranteed as believers the same promise. Amen.
