40. Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
Luke 22:40.
Jesus has completed the supper with His disciples and enters the Mount of Olives, where He often went to pray.
This is one of the heaviest moments in His time on Earth.
Jesus knows a huge spiritual battle is about to take place.
Jesus tells the disciples to stay spiritually awake, talk to God now, so you do not fail later.
Jesus gives us an example to pray first; do not wait until you are already failing.
We fail when we let fear rule, when we deny Christ, when we give up, when we put our way before God's way.
Jesus separated Himself so He could focus on His private time with God.
Asking if this cup of suffering and death could be removed, meaning, "Is there any other way?"
Yet Jesus, totally submitted to the Father, saying, "Not what I want, but Your will be done," showing that Jesus was not forced, but willingly gave Himself to save sinners.
It is no sin to be distressed in times of trouble; the right thing is to lean harder upon God.
Jesus shows us how much it cost Him to say yes to the cross for our salvation. Amen.
