The Musk vs. Altman trial is officially underway in Oakland, California, and it’s already one for the history books.Elon Musk took the stand Tuesday as the first witness, arguing that OpenAI’s founders “stole a charity” by converting the nonprofit he co-founded in 2015 into a for-profit company now valued at $852 billion.Musk is asking the court to:→ Force OpenAI back into nonprofit status→ Remove Altman and Brockman from their roles→ Award ~$130 billion in damages back to OpenAI’s nonprofit foundationAs to OpenAI’s defense, Musk is only suing because he’s now a direct competitor, and that he actually pushed for a for-profit structure himself.The judge also reprimanded Musk before proceedings began for posting about the trial 24+ times on X the night before.
