2. Saying, There was a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man.
Luke 18:2.
Jesus is telling a story to teach all to pray and not to give up.
In our verse today, Jesus introduces a judge who has no respect for God and cares nothing about justice for mankind. He is not a spiritual man, nor does he have moral values.
He is exactly the opposite of what a judge should be.
A widow comes to the judge asking for justice. She is poor, weak, vulnerable, and without power. All she has is her voice and her persistence.
She keeps asking for justice, to set things right, to be defended against the one who is wronging her.
And the judge ignores her pleading; he just does not care.
After some time passes, he says to himself, "I don't care for God, nor people! Yet this widow keeps bothering me. I will give her justice because she is never going to stop, and I am exhausted by her pleading."
The lesson: if a wicked judge can be moved by persistence, how much more will a loving, righteous God respond to His own people?
God, who actually loves you, hears and understands what you need. Jesus promises God will act and be just.
When Jesus returns, will He find people trusting Him, still praying, or people who quit? Amen.
