31. If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Luke 16:31. Jesus tells a story of a very wealthy man and a destitute beggar named Lazarus. The rich man eats well and is comfortable in a fine house. Lazarus is starving, living by the city gate, covered with sores, which the dogs lick. Both men die. Lazarus is carried away by angels to a place of comfort with Abraham. The rich man is cast into hell, no one knowing his name. Seeing Abraham a long way off, he asks if he will send Lazarus to wet his tongue, being in torment from the flames. Abraham says he cannot come; there is a great separation between them. The man asks Abraham to send Lazarus to his brothers so they do not end up in hell. Abraham says they have Moses and the prophets. The man says nay, but if someone came back from death, they would listen. Today's verse: Jesus saying, even when He comes back from death, people will refuse to hear Him. The warning is clear, simple, and true. Poverty is no guarantee of heaven, wealth is not a sentence to hell, you must be wise, and live for Christ. Amen.
