6. And they could not answer him again to these things.Luke 14:6. Jesus has been invited to a Sabbath meal after the synagogue meeting. What was really going on was that the religious leaders had set a trap for Jesus. Out of all the people attending, there was one man suffering from dropsy, which is a buildup of fluids in the body's tissue. The leaders, upset with Jesus healing on the Sabbath, were watching to accuse Him. Jesus confronted them, asking, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" They would not answer. If they said yes, they would support Jesus; if no, they would look cruel. Jesus immediately touched the man, and he was healed. Jesus asked, "Which of you, if your livestock fell into a ditch, would not pull it out on the Sabbath day?" No answer. Jesus revealed their hypocrisy: they would save an animal but not a man. Jesus shows true love, even when surrounded by hostility. The lesson, do good even if you are being watched. Amen.
