40. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.Luke 12:40. Jesus, speaking to His disciples, tells them they have nothing to fear. Though small in numbers compared to the wicked in the world, Almighty God has given this little flock the Kingdom of God because of their commitment to the Great Shepherd, Christ the Lord. And Christ warns them, since the Kingdom is theirs, not to be hindered by gaining temporary treasures on earth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.Christ is telling all who will follow in His steps to be ready for His return. There will be no extension of time, no saying, "Hold on, give me a minute, I have some things to do first." Whatever time Christ comes, we must be ready for Him. Christ gives us an example: if you knew when your house was going to be robbed, you would make preparations, and so we must be prepared to meet Christ the Lord. Coming to our verse today, we know not the day or the hour when Christ will return, so be ready at all times, joyful, and prepared to receive the reward promised. And when our time comes, or we are there to meet our Lord, none of us shall be disappointed. Amen.
