On the icy coast of Alaska, oil workers spotted a heartbreaking sight , a lone walrus calf, crying for its mother miles from the sea. Rescuers rushed to help, bringing him to the Alaska SeaLife Center, where a team of caregivers has since become his family. Because walrus calves can’t survive without touch, the staff created a 24-hour “cuddle therapy” schedule, feeding him, holding him, and whispering softly until he feels safe again. Bit by bit, the tiny calf began to heal, drinking from a bottle, recognizing his caregivers, even making soft warbling sounds of joy. “He reminds us,” one rescuer said, “that survival isn’t just about food and shelter, it’s about love.”
