20. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Luke 10:20.
Jesus appointed 70 laborers from His followers, saying, "Heal the sick, and tell them the Kingdom of God has come near to you."
Jesus tells them that those who hear them, hear Jesus; those who reject them, reject Jesus; and those who reject Jesus, reject God Almighty, who sent Him.
The 70 return happy, saying, "Lord, the devils are subject to us because of the use of your name."
Spiritual victory is real, but it can only come from Christ, not from human power.
Christ gives a prophetic vision of Satan's defeat, saying, "I beheld Satan fall like lightning from heaven."
Christ gives His followers authority, protection, and victory.
Jesus tells His followers that the joy is not in victory over demons, but that their names are written in heaven.
The lesson is that rejecting the Gospel brings severe judgment.
Serving Christ is a privilege that carries responsibility.
Christ has given authority to His followers, but spiritual victories are secondary because the ultimate joy is not power, but salvation in Christ Jesus. Amen.
