RICHMOND, VA — Fresh off her landslide victory and inauguration, Governor Abigail Spanberger proudly announced that she is delivering on her signature campaign promise: making Virginia more affordable. For Democratic politicians. After spending the entire 2025 campaign talking about her “Affordable Virginia Plan” to lower costs for working families on housing, healthcare, and energy, Spanberger and her newly empowered Democratic supermajority have hit the ground running with over 50 new tax proposals on everyday Virginians — including taxes on food delivery, rideshares, dog grooming, gym memberships, and even electric leaf blowers.Simultaneously, Democratic lawmakers introduced a budget amendment to give themselves a massive 150% raise.“Virginians voted for affordability, and that’s exactly what we’re providing,” said Spanberger, beaming and clapping in a now-viral photograph. “Affordability for the dedicated public servants who selflessly serve the people by deciding how much more the people should pay.”When asked how raising taxes on working families while dramatically increasing politician pay advances affordability, a Spanberger spokesperson explained, “It’s all about shared sacrifice. The people share the sacrifice of paying more taxes, and we share in the sacrifice of accepting much larger paychecks.”At press time, sources confirmed that any remaining concerns from voters will be addressed with a brand new tax on complaining about taxes.Reported by Jenny Talwertz, TDS News
