Those books were heavy.
Really heavy.
They sat on shelves like authority.
Like knowledge had weight.
A stranger came to the house.
Sat in the living room.
Spoke carefully.
Your parents listened.
Nodded.
Thought about the future.
Then the books arrived.
Volume after volume.
You didn’t Google answers.
You searched alphabetically.
You flipped pages.
You read more than you needed.
Curiosity wandered.
You learned things you weren’t looking for.
Those books didn’t update.
But they taught patience.
They taught effort.
They taught respect for learning.
And somehow,
they made the world feel reachable.

Notice how the salesman is talking to the BOSS...not the dad...1f92d.png I had the World Book Encyclopedia (cheaper version of Britannica). Came with an annual book too, think we made it to '72 then stopped, I could find more info for free at the local library, so told my Gmaw to save the money.
