In 2024 they petitioned against five daily loudspeaker calls, fearing it would "put Allah above everyone else" and transform their town into a mini-theocracy.Fast-forward to 2025, and similar tensions simmer in East Dearborn, where locals criticize Fajr announcements as noise ordinance violations that wake entire blocks, turning neighborhoods into unwilling participants in foreign religious rituals.Even in Minneapolis, the first major city to greenlight round-the-clock broadcasts in 2022, some locals – including self-identified M*slims – are against the calls.
