Jesus Broke the Veil ๐
Under the old covenant, no one could come directly into God's presence. Inside the temple was a sacred room called the Holy of Holies, the Most Holy Place where God's presence rested above the Ark of the Covenant. It was separated from the rest of the temple by a thick curtain. Only the high priest could enter that room, and only once a year, to offer a blood sacrifice for the sins of Israel. That curtain reminded everyone that sin separates us from The Holy God. As Hebrews 9:8 says, it signified that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest.
When Jesus died on the cross, something amazing happened...
๐ "And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and gave up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split."
-Matthew 27:50-51
God Himself tore that veil open. It showed that through Jesus' death & the shedding of His blood, the full price for sin was paid once for all.
We are no longer barred from the Holy of Holies! ๐๐
Jesus, who is God in the flesh, opened the way to the Father through His death & resurrection.
He is The Way, the path into God's presence; The Truth, the fulfillment of every symbol and shadow; and The Life, the giver of eternal access to the Father. The veil pointed to Him, and through His sacrifice everyone who trusts in Him now has direct access to God. We no longer need an earthly priest to ask Yahweh for our forgiveness. Jesus is our Great High Priest! โ๏ธ
"So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most." -Hebrews 4:16
The tearing of the veil also marked God's departure from the temple. Jesus had said, "Your house is left to you desolate." He will return when Israel says, "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord."
