House Democrat Rep. Katherine Clark openly admitted what many of us already knew. They’re willing to let Americans suffer to score political points. She said, “Of course there will be families that are going to suffer... but it is one of the few leverage times we have.”
These are some of the foreign-spending items Speaker Johnson cited that we would not fund under the Democrats’ Continuing Resolution counter-proposal:
- $24.6 million for climate resilience in Honduras
- $13.4 million for civic engagement in Zimbabwe
- $3.9 million for LGBTQI+ democracy grants in the Western Balkans
- $2.9 million for desert locust risk reduction in the Horn of Africa
- $2 million for organizing for feminist democratic principles in Africa
Instead of putting people first, Clark and her party are using hardworking Americans as bargaining chips in their political power plays. When did caring for families become less important than party leverage?
