Filling a tire with wood, not air? Just one of the things you can learn at the Canadian Transportation Museum Heritage Village in Kingsville, Ontario. Visit Tuesday – Sunday 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.
From the description - This tire, along with two others of similar condition, was mounted on a Godfredson truck, owned from 1917 to 1966 by Mr. J. M. Douglas of Carleton Place, Ontario.
Harry Branje of H. B. Auto Ltd., of Almonte, Ontario, near Ottawa, purchased the remains of the truck, and has altered it into a mobile cross-cut saw, powered by a 15 horsepower power stationary engine.
Mr. Branje sold this tire, with the express condition that it be donated to the H.V.S.O. Transportation Museum for display purposes.
There is a one inch rod in the centre of these blocks to assist in keeping them in position once mounted on the tire rim.
This display is a sample of the ingenuity utilized during “The Depression”, to keep tires in use once they had blown.
