Roman Catholicism is closer to paganism than it is Christianity.
Which really shouldn't be surprising... the word "Catholic" comes from the Greek katholikos, meaning "universal" In a broader sense, "catholic" can also mean inclusive or broad-minded, as in "catholic tastes," but this is less common. So, the "Roman" "Catholic" church is merely the universal, broad minded Roman organization peripherally related to Christianity, and mandated by the authorities in Rome as the "official" state church in the fourth century. Christ himself had nothing to do with it, nor, I suspect, would he now.
