Van Gogh painted "Houses at Auvers" in June 1890 during his final months in Auvers-sur-Oise, a village northwest of Paris. He had moved there after leaving an asylum in Saint-Rémy and painted many of his finest works in a prolific burst of activity before his death in July of the same year.
