The Parable of the Twins in the Womb
In the womb of a mother, two babies were having a conversation.
Baby 1: “Do you believe in life after delivery?”
Baby 2: “Of course not. What kind of life would that be? Here we are in the dark, warm, and safe. This is all there is.”
Baby 1: “But I think there must be something more than this place. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what will come later.”
Baby 2: “Nonsense! There is no life after delivery. What would that even look like?”
Baby 1: “I don’t know exactly, but I believe there will be more light, and maybe we’ll be able to walk and eat with our mouths. Perhaps we’ll even have other senses that we can’t understand right now.”
Baby 2: “That’s absurd. Walking? Eating with our mouths? That’s ridiculous. The umbilical cord supplies us with everything we need. Why would we want life outside of this?”
Baby 1: “I think there is something else, and maybe it’s even better than this place. Maybe we will see our mother face to face and experience her love more directly.”
Baby 2: “Mother? You actually believe in a mother? Where is she? Have you ever seen her?”
Baby 1: “No, but sometimes when everything is quiet, I can hear her voice, or feel her heartbeat. I think she is all around us. We live in her and through her. Without her, we would not exist.”
Baby 2: “I don’t believe it. There’s no evidence of any mother. This is all there is—just this dark, small world, and when delivery comes, that will be the end.”
Baby 1: “When delivery comes, we’ll see the One who has been holding us all along—the Giver of our life.”
