13 September 1942 | The 31st transport of Jews deported from Drancy in German-occupied France arrived at #Auschwitz. The first selection took place in Kosel - some 300 Jews were chosen as laborers for the Schmelt organization.
After the selection at Auschwitz, 2 men and 78 women were registered in the camp. The remaining grup, some 620 people, were murdered immediately in gas chambers.
One of the murdered was Horst Rosenthal, a German-born French cartoonist of Jewish descent.
He is best known for his 1942 French comic book Mickey au Camp de Gurs (Mickey Mouse in the Gurs Internment Camp) which he created while he was a prisoner at the Gurs internment camp in Vichy France during World War II.
It was a 13-panel comic strip starring Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse, who is arrested on suspicion of being Jewish and sent to Gurs.
