2/ 1969 Brothers Glyn & Wayne Haynie had both completed basic training at Fort Benning, GA along with Infantry Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Gordon, GA with both attending airborne school (did not complete) at Fort Benning, GA. After this both brothers received orders for a 12 mth deployment to Vietnam.
Both went home for a 30 day leave 30-day leave before reporting to Fort Lewis, Washington and subsequent processing to Vietnam.
On 3/9/1969, the brothers were taken to the airport by their family Wayne and I left our parents’ house for Vietnam. They were taken to the airport by their Mom Dad & sister The brothers flew to Fort Lewis, Washington, spending the night then on 3/11/1969 boarding an international flight to Vietnam with stops in Alaska and Japan.
They joined some 543,482, troops that were in Vietnam when they touched down they were 2c of around 1 736 US Army personnel that served there and 12 od 2 594 000 that served in Vietnam during the War.
They both served with the Americal (23rd) Infantry Division @ the Combat Center at Chu Lai. IN 5/1969 Wayne was posted to Korea While Glyn reported to 1st Platoon, Company A, 3rd Battalion/1st Infantry, 11th Brigade, Americal Division.
