A pair of huge Honeycomb Moray Eels on Aliwal Shoal, South Africa
The Honeycomb moray (Gymnothorax favagineus), also known as the Tessalata or Leopard moray, is a large marine fish found in the Indo-Pacific region, characterized by its white to yellowish body with distinctive dark brown or black honeycomb-like spots. This nocturnal ambush predator primarily hunts small fish and cephalopods, using its powerful second set of pharyngeal jaws to grasp prey and pull it into its stomach. Honeycomb morays are territorial, live in caves and reef crevices, and can grow up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) in length.
