At just 12, Rebecca Young has achieved what many engineers dream of: designing a life-saving invention now helping people survive freezing nights on the streets.
Her idea won national recognition, triumphing over more than 70,000 entries to claim the UK’s prestigious Primary Engineer MacRobert Medal. Engineering company Thales brought her design to life, producing 30 working prototypes already in use by charities across Glasgow, with production of 120 more in motion.
