The Anhinga, also known as the "snakebird," is a large, dark waterbird with a long, S-shaped neck and a pointed bill, found in the southeastern United States and Central and South America. It is a skilled diver that spears fish underwater with its sharp beak, then flips them into the air to swallow them headfirst. Anhingas are often seen with their bodies submerged and only their long necks visible, giving them their snake-like appearance.
