#OTD August 21, 1831
Nat Turner, a Baptist lay preacher and former slave, leads a violent uprising in Virginia. Convinced by visions that God called him to strike against slavery, Turner and his followers killed dozens before being suppressed. The revolt sparked harsher Southern laws restricting Black preaching, gatherings, and education.
