Who remembers the McGavin Bakery giant loaf and hand? It was atop the bakery building on West Broadway and Arbutus Street. The unique display was installed back in 1947 and eventually dismantled in 1973 when the elements finally took its toll. Originally there used to be a sleeve on the wrist but it was blown off in a wind storm!

A firefighters nightmare. That's called a Dead Load. Weight added to a rooftop that the bldg wasn't originally built to hold will fail quickly in a fire. IE: a car on the roof of a dealership.
