It is with great sadness that we announced the passing of John Cruickshank, the last surviving recipient of the Victoria Cross from WW2. He was 105.
The Aberdeen-born flight lieutenant was given the award after a daring attack on a German U-Boat.
Cruickshank and his crew attacked the German submarine U-361 while flying over the Norwegian Sea protecting a fleet of British vessels.
John was the longest-living of 181 heroes who received the country’s highest military honour from the war.
