Diana Koshyk, 23 years old and 6 months pregnant, was in maternity ward in Kamianske, Ukraine, when a Russian missile hit a building nearby.
She called her husband, ran downstairs for cover. But Russia killed her and her unborn son Damir with a second strike, Washington Post.
Diana and her husband Sasha (27) had tried for a year to have a child. They named him Damir.
On July 30, Diana checked into Maternity Ward 9 with severe abdominal pain. That night, Russia launched two missiles into the city center.
The first missile hit a building 200m from the hospital. Sasha was 25 min away when Diana called.
When he reached the hospital, a nurse told him 2 women were wounded, 1 dead.
He searched ambulances. Then saw a body lying, covered with a sheet. He saw Diana's green slippers.
Diana's family buried her with her hands over the belly. The crib, car seat, and baby mattress — “It’s a boy!” — stayed unused.
The grave listed her name and dates. Underneath: Damir’s name and a death date. No birthday.
Diana's husband now lives alone in the home they were preparing. “I had a reason to live. Now I don’t. I’m walking, but I’m not here”.
