Honoring Green Beret Ronald J. Shurer II, an Army Staff Sergeant and medic who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic action during more than six continuous hours of fighting during the Battle of Shok Valley in April 2008. Shurer and his team were attacked by an enemy of more than 200 fighters. Shurer fought for more than an hour to reach his wounded soldiers, treated the wounded, and killing several insurgents along the way. Shurer was honorably discharged in May 2009 and then was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer in 2017. He died on May 14, 2020, as a result of the disease at the age of 41.
