Jefferson and Mary Souder’s love story stands as a powerful testament to enduring devotion. Married for 60 years, the couple built a life rooted in family, faith, and community in Tarrant County, Texas. Together they raised generations—children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—while becoming well-respected figures in their town. In July 1921, heartbreak swept through the Souder family when Mary suddenly fell ill and passed away from “the flux,” a term once used for dysentery. The loss devastated Jefferson, and just two days later, he too succumbed to the same illness. The closeness of their deaths underscored the depth of their connection, and their story quickly spread through the Fort Worth community. Local newspapers shared their remarkable tale, noting that even in death, Jefferson and Mary could not be apart. In a deeply moving gesture of unity, the couple was buried side by side in the same casket.
