Against “Children’s Church.”
Keep your kids in the Lord’s Day service!
This week while my wife and 3 year old son were having breakfast, my son lifted his toast above his head and exclaimed…
“This is the body of Christ!”
He then proceeded to tear his toast and chow down.
Even at 3 years old, he is beginning to grasp the gospel.
Every week, because our church includes the little ones, my son understands more and more that The Lord Jesus invites his people to His table, and he graciously feeds them.
The Lord’s Day service liturgy is discipleship 101.
Why on earth would we intentionally exclude our children from The Lord’s Day service?
Parents, your children are watching. They understand more than you know.
What are we teaching them by excluding them?
Our Lord says… “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
He does not say… “find someone to babysit the children so you can have a worry-free Sunday morning worship experience.”
Keeping children in the service truly is hard work. It can be exhausting at times. But the discipleship of our children shouldn’t pause for two hours on Sunday morning.
It is important for your littles to see their Father singing praises to the Lord.
It is important for them to be washed in the preaching of the Word too.
It is important that our children KNOW that they belong WITH God’s people.
This is a long way of saying, i think we need to be done with “children’s church,” and include our children in Lord’s Day worship.
