Christian explorer and frontiersman Jedediah Smith is killed by Comanche warriors near the Cimarron River while searching for water on the Santa Fe Trail. Known for his deep faith, integrity, and courage, Smith was one of the first Americans to explore vast regions of the West, including the Rockies, California, and the Great Basin, charting trails that would later guide settlers and missionaries alike.
