161 years ago today, for the first and only time in history, a school's entire student body fought as an organized combat unit: Cadets of the Virginia Military Institute, after marching 80 miles from their barracks in Lexington, engaged federal troops near the town of New Market. As the Confederate center began to falter, the Cadets were sent in - and charged into history. At the cost of 10 KIA and scores wounded, Cadets stormed the enemy artillery - leading to a Virginian victory. Today we remember their heroism and wish a very special New Market Day to all Virginians & VMI Alumni especially. Rah Virginia Mil!
