#OnThisDay May 11, 1926: J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis have their first extended conversation at Oxford—a meeting that sparks a deep and lasting friendship. Though Lewis was then an atheist, this dialogue would eventually help lead him to faith in Christ, a journey completed five years later. The two men would go on to form the Inklings, a circle of writers and thinkers who met regularly to share ideas, readings, and fellowship. Their influence would shape not only each other’s writing but the spiritual imagination of generations. As Lewis would later reflect: “What you see here is a man who has passed from unbelief to belief through the help of a friend who believed it wholeheartedly.”
