#OnThisDay May 3, 1738: English evangelist George Whitefield arrives in America for the first of seven visits. Known as the most influential preacher of the 18th century, Whitefield would go on to deliver over 18,000 sermons to an estimated 10 million people, helping ignite the Great Awakening.
