When our world feels like it is upside down, it is nice to be reminded that the vast majority of us are high quality people. Oscar was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) in December 2018. Doctors informed his parents that he had only three months to find a suitable stem cell donor to improve his chances of survival. His parents asked for help, and in response, Pitmaston Primary School, where Oscar was a student, organized a donor registration event in collaboration with the charity DKMS. The event saw an unprecedented turnout, with 4,855 individuals braving inclement weather to provide cheek swabs for potential matching. Eventually, a match was found! As of the latest updates, Oscar has been cancer-free for over four years and recently celebrated his 10th birthday. He continues to attend school and enjoys spending time with his younger brother.
