#OnThisDay
April 22, 1538:
John Calvin and William Farel are expelled from Geneva by the town council after refusing to administer the Lord’s Supper the previous day. Their refusal stemmed from both the unrepentant sin in the city and their opposition to Bern’s influence in using unleavened bread. Ordered to leave within three days, the reformers would later return and help shape Geneva into a center of Reformed theology.
