The United Nations has declared January 27 the #InternationalHolocaustRemembranceDay, commemorating the genocide over 6 million Jews and 11 million others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators during the IIWW.
On this date in 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp, was liberated by the Red Army.
On this death camp alone, 960,000 Jews, 74,000 non-Jewish Poles, 21,000 Roma, 15,000 Soviet prisoners of war, and up to 15,000 other Europeans were murdered.
