An Open Letter to America's Media Outlets by Samuel Terpening.
To the Editors, Reporters, and Media Executives of America,
We, the American people, have watched as our trust in you has eroded, not by accident but by design. You've played us against each other, fed us lies wrapped in sensationalism, and turned news into a battleground for ideological warfare. But no more.
We see through your tactics:
Your clickbait headlines that prioritize profit over truth.
Your echo chambers that amplify division and silence nuance.
Your selective outrage that seems more about ratings than justice.
We are no longer blind followers of your narratives. We will not dance to the tune of your biased reporting or partake in the feast of misinformation you've laid out for us.
Here's our message:
We will not trust you until you earn it back. That means rigorous, unbiased reporting, not opinion disguised as fact.
We will not finance your division. We're cutting off the financial support by unsubscribing, unfollowing, and boycotting the advertisers who fund your deceit.
We demand accountability. Every lie, every half-truth, every manipulation will be met with public scrutiny. We'll use your own platforms to expose your failures.
We will support those who tell the truth. We'll redirect our attention and our dollars to independent voices, local journalism, and anyone committed to factual reporting.
But know this: the government, which many of us have grown equally skeptical of, holds the final leverage. In this historic moment, with the collective will of the people, we can demand change from both the media and our government:
Emergency Broadcast Mandates: We call on the government to enforce laws ensuring that in national emergencies, all media outlets must broadcast accurate information, thus serving the public interest above all.
Regulatory Oversight: The FCC, under public pressure, must act decisively to curb media practices that undermine our democracy or spread harmful misinformation.
This isn't just about regaining trust in our media; it's about reclaiming our democracy from those who would distort it for personal gain. We are at a turning point where we can reshape our media landscape, but we will show no mercy to those who continue to deceive us.
America deserves better. America demands better. And we, the people, will not rest until we see it.
