The Mexican Expedition
March 14 1916 to February 7 1917
The expedition 10,000 strong under Brigadier General John J "Black Jack" Pershing, was launched in retaliation for Pancho Villa's raid on Columbus New Mexico. Despite Villa's escape, his main body was located and defeated making Pershing a national hero who would later become commander of all U. S. forces during World War I.
