The young Belarusian sniper Maria Zaitseva was killed in battle against the Russian Army on January 17th near Pokrovsk.
She had turned 24 a day earlier.
In 2020, a viral photo was taken of her receiving treatment for her wounds after being shot in the face with a stun grenade by Lukahensko’s riot police during the protests against the falsified presidential election.
She intially served as a combat medic in Ukraine but quickly retrained and served as a sniper.
