It's one of the most famous paintings by the French artist Jean-Léon Gérôme, whose paintings are distinguished by his historical and legendary character. During his visit to Egypt in 1856, he painted the Carpet merchant, which depicts the Egyptian commercial market, especially the carpet market, with its bright colors, different types, and speculation operations on it.
