14 January 1943 | Among a group of 69 prisoners deported from the Tarnów prison, was Jerzy Adam Brandhuber, a Polish painter and graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. He had been arrested in Jasło on charges of aiding Jews.
At Auschwitz, he was registered with the number 87112. In 1944 he was tranferred to Sachsenhausen. He survived the war and later became one of the co-founders of the Auschwitz Museum.
Adam Brandhuber passed away in 1981, leaving behind a valuable scholarly work dedicated to Soviet prisoners of war in Auschwitz, as well as a collection of approximately 80 artworks, including three series of paintings: „Auschwitz,” "Ramp", and „Quarantine”.
